Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk will occur in 34 cities across the country with one mission: to raise funds and awareness for local bleeding disorders chapters and help them increase education, support services and advocacy efforts in their community.

CHRIS & JOHNNY'S CREW has been participating in the local Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk for 11 years now.   Our 11 year old son, Johnny, is part of the third generation in our family to LIVE with Hemophilia A Severe.  It's a genetic bleeding disorder where his blood lacks Factor VIII blood protein (a necessary component of the blood clotting cascade).

 We have to infuse Johnny with a very expensive intravenous medication 2-3 times per week into his tiny veins to prevent bleeding issues and permit him to be an active boy. 
• 
  Without access to his medicine and treatment,  he would not be able to do the activities he loves like play basketball, participate at the park district summer camp at the community pool, bleeding disorders camp,  and camp with the Scouts.

He's had over 900 intravenous infusions in his young life.  While we are blessed to have access to quality healthcare and medical treatment, thousands of kids and adults affected face internal bleeding, inadequate access to treatments and resources.

While our nephew, Chris, also has Hemophilia A Severe, his body  rejects traditional factor VIII medicine. He's faced many bleeding issues, chronic pain, and many surgeries. We were blessed with advances in medical technology in 2018 that has greatly improved his quality of life.

I am on the board of directors for the Bleeding Disorders Alliance of Illinois and on a mission to help provide resources and support to our local bleeding disorders community.  Every dollar stays within our community and supports critical initiatives such as education, emergency financial support, and resources to ensure families have access to quality healthcare.
