My name is Matthew and I am 11 years old, I'm participating in the Unite For Bleeding Disorders Walk - a fundraising event to support those living with bleeding disorders in my community. Inherited bleeding disorders are a life-long condition. Currently there is no cure, but scientists are actively engaged in finding cures and improving treatments.
That’s why I’m raising money and I hope that I can count on your support of this exciting event! Thousands of families in our community, and across the country will benefit from your support and the success of the Walk.
I was diagnosed with Severe Hemophilia A with an Inhbitor. My body began rejecting the medications to make my blood clot. Currently, there are only a few medications that can help stop a bleed and sometimes it takes months for them to go away. I have been in and out of hospitalizations since I was two months old. I have had four surgeries and undergone one experimental procedure. I miss many days of school because of bleeds in my joints or simple things such as loosing a tooth. I use a walker and a wheelchair sometimes to help me get around. My parents and family are always so supportive. One of our biggest supporters is the VHF. They help lobby in DC to ensure I have insurance and I'm not forgotten or dismissed. They help families when they loose their insurance and always provide the most up to date educational seminars for my family to attend. My medical costs usually are around $1.5 million a year for medications mostly, and doctors appointments and orthotics. One bleed can be life-altering for me and require hourly doses of medication to control. Take a stand with me against this disease and help us raise money for research. We are so close to developing a cure, but not quite there.
My personal goal is to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause. I’m asking for your help to reach my goal. Will you make a tax-deductible contribution by donating what you can? It’s fast and easy to make a donation right here on my fundraising page.
Thank you in advance for your support and together, we will make a difference.
