We are participating in the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk - a fundraising event to support those living with bleeding disorders in my community. Words cannot express our gratitude for the many benefits we have received as a family and Cody as an individual from monies raised through events like this.
If someone reading this isn't familiar with hemophilia, it is a rare, chronic, bleeding disorder with no cure. Cody's blood does not clot effectively, so if he gets injured or would need surgery, he needs expensive medication to help his blood to clot. This year, Cody developed a hip bleed. Cody does not remember doing anything specifically to cause the bleed in his hip, but we knew something was wrong when he was in excruciating pain and could not bear weight on his leg.
After an evaluation from specialists at UVA, two weeks of bedrest, physical therapy, and IV medication Cody was back to normal. It is hard to imagine how we would have gotten through this without the support from our VHF chapter, hemophilia community family, and the specialists involved in his care.
This year we want to give back and spread the love of support and resources to other boys, girls, and their families. We are truly grateful to be a part of this special community. If you have taken the time to read our story, thank you, knowledge is power. Do you know someone that is going through something similar and does not have access to resources? Let them know there is help!
If you feel compelled to donate or join our team to walk and raise money, and donate/raise $50 or more, you will receive a free customized Star City Bleeders t-shirt! If you join our team to walk, you will receive a free Star City Bleeders water bottle, thank you!
T-shirts and water bottles are still being designed. I will post pictures at a later date!
